  BABYGIRL - A Rescue Story

I received an email from Ontario BTCC Rescue Representative Kelly Pankatz asking me if I could temporarily take in a boston terrier mix named Baby Girl. Arrangements were made that we would meet some very kind golden retriever rescue colleagues Heather and Brenda at Huntsville , who offered to help with Baby Girl’s transport. I would be taking two dogs down from the Humane Society in North Bay - Sassy an old, deaf, nearly blind shihtzu and another mixed breed dog to them and they would bring Baby Girl.

We arrived in Huntsville and Heather and Brenda were already there and out of the vehicle they get with Baby Girl. Well, to say that my friend Angela and I were surprised is putting it mildly. I wouldn’t want Angela to have a boring life, so I drag her along to go places with me. Out came this dog, cute as a button. She was large compared to a purebred boston terrier, but with the most wonderful face. We arrived home safely, with Baby Girl sitting on Angela’s knee and she was a wonderful traveler in the vehicle. When we arrived home we all settled down. Baby Girl was busy, busy, busy wandering around in the fenced in yard.

The next day Angela brought her bassett hound named Odie over for boarding. He and Baby Girl appeared to be getting along. The next thing I know, I see her little

backside disappearing through this tiny crack where the gate meets the post.  I grabbed a leash and went looking. For someone that is that old, she could run a marathon as I couldn’t see her nor find her. I came home, got the vehicle and as I drove out of the driveway I saw Her Royal Highness heading home. I stopped, open the sliding door and in she jumped as if to say, “What took you so long?”

Angela phone me the next day, saying that she would like to adopt Baby Girl. So Angela arrived and Baby Girl got in the vehicle, without even a backward glance at me. I guess I was just the messenger!

The first couple of days were a bit strained as Baby Girl thinks she should be number one in all things. Thankfully, Odie is a very laid back dog so it is now a match made in heaven.

Baby Girl is thoroughly spoiled. She now sleeps in the bed, on the couch, and in Albert’s good chair. Albert adores her and when he is sitting in his chair Baby Girl is always sitting on his lap. Albert has a nickname for her: “Mac”, as she does look like the logo on the Mac truck. Baby Girl is one lucky dog and I think she does realize it. She doesn’t like to be outside anymore, it is much better in the house in comfort. She is thriving in the good food, warmth, and a comfortable place to lay. Most of all, she is enjoying the companionship of another four legged friend and her doting owners.

For all those that made this possible, Angela and I thank you. Baby Girl is very loved.
